This farm is the creation of Tomas Gutierrez and Allan Vargas. Their vision for this farm placed an emphasis on a scientific approach, technique, and sustainability, rather than following the traditional production norms in this region. They wanted to draw on the best technical advice out there, including the use of hybrid varietals, renovation techniques, and fertilizer applications. This particular coffee is the Marsellesa variety, which is a hybrid variety with a high resistance to leaf rust.

The family-run mill where this lot was processed was one of the first micro mills in the area with a heavy focus on quality processing. Finca San Juanillo also carries a Rainforest Alliance certification.
