ORIGIN: GEDEB, ETHIOPIA
VARIETY: ETHIOPIAN HEIRLOOM
PROCESS: WASHED
NOTES: LEMON CANDY, PEACH, BLACK TEA

Recent changes to the commodities exchange in Ethiopia means that export companies tied to mills can establish relationships with buyers and offer their coffees directly to importers and roasters like us.

Mijane Woresa and his family own two washing stations, one of which is Worka Sakaro. 410 smallholder farmers contribute their coffee to the family mill where it is carefully sorted throughout processing, fermented for 48 hours, and dried slowly on raised beds for 12-15 days.

Not only does the mill create fantastic coffee, but it also prioritizes investing in social and logistical needs in their community. For example, local cherry reception sites were created to reduce the travel a producer would have to go through. Roads were also built to help in transportation, and school projects and sports equipment were supplied by the family.
