Finca Jauja is located on the outskirts of Antigua, sitting at an average of 1,550 meters above sea level. Jauja was one of the first farms to be planted with coffee in the Antigua area, but as time passed, the family who managed the farm became less interested in farming, and the farm began to suffer. In 2010, Ricardo Zelayla started to rent the property and immediately begun restoration of the farm.
The Zelayla family has been growing coffee for over 100 years and is very well known around the world for their quality coffee. Ricardo began to restore the farm to a place where it began to thrive again, focusing on restoring the topsoil, plant nutrition, and pruning. The farm has now been returned to its original glory, interspersed with gravilea shade trees, providing the coffee trees the optimal environment for healthy production, and is now home to local birds and insects.
The Zelayla family is passionate about quality, sustainability, and the wellness of their workers, whom they treat like family. This coffee is a prime example of great farm management, and produces wonderful and exciting coffee.
