Juan Peña is the owner and operator of Hacienda La Papaya. A rising star in Ecuador, Juan has been instrumental in helping to build Ecuador's emerging coffee scene. Juan started experimenting with growing coffee in 2010 after his long-stem rose flower fields were wiped out due to disastrous weather. He then turned all his focus to coffee, working really hard at cultivating a healthy, hardy, and horticulturally intentional farm as possible. Juan is actively engaged in all aspects of his farm, from experimenting with different fertilizers, to the health and growth of his coffee cherry, to processing, and even giving back to his surrounding community. He is meticulous, scientific, and generous. La Papaya is an amazing example of Ecuador's potential.
